How to Write Great Essays
In this class you will be asked to write a lot of essays. Usually, every test you take will include one. Near the day of the AP Exam, you will be given several practice essays to write for homework, but they are very helpful. The tips below should help you get the best score possible on all of your essays:
1. Organize your essay
Some people find it's easiest to do this by creating an outline before writing their essay. I found the best method for me was to answer every question with one or two words in my head then write the actual essay. It all depends on whether you're a visual learner or not. Just pick which method works best for you.
2. Balance your essay
This is a method that I think makes it easier on the scorer and makes you seem more intelligent. For example, if the prompt asks for two characteristics of both Democrats and Republicans write two paragraphs and make sure that the structure of each matches. This makes the information easier to locate and grade.
3. Keep your handwriting legible
If your handwriting is not clear then even if you wrote the correct information it could be marked as incorrect.
4. Proofread your essay
MAKE SURE YOU GO BACK OVER WHAT YOU'VE WRITTEN! If you neglect to do this then you might not realize if you forgot to include some vitally important information or if what you've written doesn't make sense. It's always better to take a little extra time and fix any mistakes than to rush and regret it.
